CHI2014 Workshop: Interaction and Architectural Space (April 2014, Toronto Canada)

Dates: 26-27 April 2014
Location: Toronto, Canada
Website: http://interactioninspaceworkshop.blogspot.com
Deadline for submissions: 10 January 2014

Our awareness of space and its role in the interaction process is becoming more distinct as we move from the earliest two-dimensional graphical user interface, through to games & virtual reality, and now emerging into mobile computing, urban computing, ambient computing, tangible computing and ubiquitous computing.

This workshop will bring together expertise from architecture and human computer interaction to foreground the role of space in the CHI community. We welcome participants from a range of disciplines including architecture, environmental and human factors psychology, computing, HCI, interaction design, digital arts, geography and cognitive science, as they all contribute to research on Interaction in Architectural Space.  As the workshop intends to bring together a community of researchers and designers who are creating interactive technologies in spatial settings, it invites any high-quality contributions relevant to the workshop topic.

5th Intl Conf on Design Computing & Cognition – Workshops & Posters (June 2012, Texas)

CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS
Dates: Workshops 5-6 June 2012
Dates: Posters 7-9 June 2012
Location: Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, USA
Website: http://mason.gmu.edu/~jgero/conferences/dcc12/
Deadline for proposals: 3 February 2012

Posters decribing research – both in progress and completed – are being solicited for the conference. This is an opportunity to present your work in an alternate mode than through formal research papers. In addition to the poster sessions there will be sessions for the presentation of short verbal descriptions of the poster material. At this stage only abstracts of the poster material need to be submitted.

Proposals are invited for half-day workshops on advanced topics related to design computing or design cognition. The workshops that succeed are those that provide considerable opportunity for discussion and are not run as mini-conferences.

Proposals for workshops should contain the following information in no more than 1000 words:
Workshop Title
Name of Chair(s) plus email contact
Committee of 3 to 5 people (preferably with international representation)
Goals of the workshop
Workshop format
Method of admission (e.g., no requirement, abstract, resume)

Submission and other details can be found at: http://mason.gmu.edu/~jgero/conferences/dcc12/ .

DCC10 Workshop: Assessing the Impact of Complexity Science in Design (July 2010, Stuttgart)

Date: 10 July 2010
Website: http://design.open.ac.uk/ecidII/complexity&design.htm

Designers today increasingly turn to concepts and tools coming from complexity science in order to understand, manage and exploit complexity in their everyday practice. Complexity science has been used in design in various ways, as a theory of design; as a method for research (e.g. in order to analyze or model design artefacts, processes and activities); and also as a method for generating design solutions. The aim of the workshop is to discuss and assess the impact of complexity science in design research, design cognition and design practice.
