Reviewers for 6th Conf of the Swiss Design Network (Oct 2010, Switzerland)
March 26, 2010 Leave a comment
The Sixth Annual Conference of the Swiss Design Network on October 28 – 30, 2010, in Basel, Switzerland, brings together scholars, professionals and students who come from diverse backgrounds and share interests in design and design research.
Program reviewers experienced in the research topics, practices, methods and epistemologies appropriate to design research serve the invaluable role of shaping the conference. The quality of a selective research conference depends on the quality of its reviewing process. Therefore the Swiss Design Network and the Academy of Art and Design FHNW in Basel kindly ask for your participation as a reviewer. Deadline to volunteer: 4 April 2010.
The 2010 Conference theme addresses the topic of “negotiating futures. design fiction.“ It builds on the assumption, that designers see the world not simply as it is, but rather as it could be. In this perspective, the world is a laboratory to explore the contingency of the existing and the thinking in options. Imaginations of the contra factual are a key source for the creation of alternative political, technological, social, or economic constellations of artefacts, interfaces, signs, actors, and spaces. At the same time, strategies of materialization are pivotal to shift the boundary between the fictional and the real and to finally bring possible new realities into being. The conference program therewith features a diverse selection of full papers, short papers and workshops exploring fields around the following question: how are fictions designed and how is the multiplicity of possible new futures negotiated and realized? Keynote speakers include James Auger, Julian Bleecker, Ruth Durrer, Franz Liebl, and Alexandra Midal.
The conference uses a two stage process for submission and review: First abstracts are reviewed and successful authors are selected to submit a short or a full paper for a second review. The process will be completely electronic, with the review and rating system online. Reviewers will be offered the opportunity to select specific areas of interest.
