Dates: 18-23 April 2015
Location: Seoul, Korea
Deadline for submissions: 5 January 2015
Engaging children and young people in play for wellbeing is coming to prominence in HCI and interaction design research. This includes the creation of play to support therapy, organized play with children with additional needs and also exploring how to facilitate opportunities for spontaneous play that have the potential to enhance wellbeing. This workshop aims to develop an understanding of how we can engage children in playful activities, explore challenges in designing for play and identify strategies to support it.
We invite authors to submit 2-4 page position papers (in ACM Extended Abstract Format<http://www.sigchi.org/publications/chipubform/sigchi-extended-abstracts-word-template/view>). Topics include, but are not limited to, the following:
• Understanding how the characteristics of play may relate to conceptualizations of wellbeing;
• Case studies exploring the design of technologies for facilitating playful engagements to enhance wellbeing;
• Exploring how digital technologies can be designed to facilitate wellbeing through play;
• Discussions and reflections on methodological and practical challenges when designing for child play.
Submissions should be sent as .pdf to email@example.com. Please indicate which of the position paper authors will attend the workshop. As places are limited, we may need to cap the number of attendees per position paper. At least one author of each accepted submission must register for the workshop and at least one day of the main conference. For more information, please visit http://di.ncl.ac.uk/playwellbeing.
