The inaugural Irish Design Research Conference is an exciting new event on the design landscape, supported by ID2015 Year of Irish Design. In recognition of the breadth & depth across the design disciplinary bandwidth in both research & practice, FAULTLINES-Bridging Knowledge Spaces has been adopted as the 2015 conference theme.

Through interaction and collaboration across disciplines, gaps in knowledge and practice will offer new opportunity, to inform future theory & practice for mutual benefit.

Aim:

The Irish Design Research Conference seeks to draw stakeholders from across the design related community together into a common dialogue.

The aim is to offer a forum to disseminate the most current knowledge, share ongoing practice-led insight, and discuss emergent issues relevant to those working in the field of design, design thinking & practice.

The Directors of DRN & TRACEY in collaboration with Coventry University are pleased to announce a Drawing Research Network Postgraduate Event. The event will take place at Coventry University on Thursday 23rd October 2014.

The event aims to provide a space for discussion, dissemination and the exchange of knowledge of research methodologies developed by those either undertaking or recently completed PhD research, where drawing forms a part of the practitioner-research. The organisers would like to invite those engaged in drawing research in this context to submit a proposal for a 20 minute presentation that introduces and analyses the key points of their developed methodology.

The Engineering Design and Methodology Group at the University of Luxembourg will be organising the 1st International PhD Symposium on Engineering Design (IPSED’13) from 27-29 November 2013 in Luxembourg. The symposium will focus on research issues in the area of engineering design research and design science.  IPSED’13 provides two different tracks for submitted contributions. The beginners track offers a platform to present early stage research and new research ideas. The advanced track is intended to present research results in a matured stage.

Extended abstracts (beginners track) and full papers (advanced track) to be submitted by 30 August 2013.

The DESIRE 2011 Doctoral Consortium will precede the 2nd Creativity and Innovation in Design Conference and it will take place in Eindhoven, the Netherland on the 18th of October 2011. The Doctoral Consortium will provide a supportive atmosphere where PhD students can present their research-in-progress for an open discussion, under the guidance of an interdisciplinary panel of experienced researchers. The colloquium offers students the valuable opportunity to receive feedback and perspectives from recognized experts in the field, and to engage with fellow researchers. The strongest candidates will be far enough into their PhD to have a concrete proposal, and have initially outlined the salient issues and proposed research methodology. Preference will be given to applicants who have ample time before thesis submission to incorporate feedback received at the colloquium.

The Use of Researcher Practice in the Design-Based PhD (June 2010)

Further to recent discussions on the PHD-DESIGN forum and a review of published material, there is a need for a resource that presents documented examples of completed PhD’s that include visually creative researcher practice in the design-based PhD. An opportunity exists for the design research community to generate a resource (with lots of images) that will be of benefit to new researchers, supervisors, and demonstrate the value of design-based researcher practice to the wider academy.
