This special Issue of ACCESS journal builds on the successful Effective Supervision of Creative Arts Research Degrees (ESCARD) conference at QUT, Australia in 2013. http://supervisioncreativeartsphd.net.

Papers should engage with issues relating to the supervision of higher research degrees that involve creative practice (in fields such as visual and performing arts, design, creative writing, film or new media) and focus on themes such as:

Assisting students in developing the relationship between theory and practice in the structure and/or form of the thesis/exegesis/dissertation;
Solving challenges encountered in supervision;
Designing training, strategies, tools, or resources to facilitate smooth student progress;
Supporting the academic or professional development of PhD students;
Academic development for supervisors of creative arts research degrees.
