The Brazilian Symposium on Sustainable Design (SBDS) and the International Symposium on Sustainable Design (ISSD) have been held every two years, since 2007, and together are among the most important scientific events of South America in the area. The first event occurred in2007, in Curitiba; the second happened in 2009, in São Paulo; and the third, in 2011, in Recife.

The fourth edition, to be held in Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil), from November 12th to 14th, 2013, proposes the overall theme “The Unbearable Lightness of Having”.
